And here's the fun part: Elfman had no formal training as a film composer. He came from the rock band Oingo Boingo, and his unlikely movie career took off when director Tim Burton asked him to score Pee-wee's Big Adventure. That began one of Hollywood's most distinctive musical partnerships. So even if you don't recognize every movie in this medley, listen for the Elfman trademarks: mischievous rhythms, mysterious sounds, big heroic moments, and music that always seems to have a surprise waiting around the corner.
