7tales 010 | Rare & Eclectic Journey | Selected by Mr. Fiel

Episode 010 - curated by Mr. Fiel (owner of the Faith in Truth Records) https://faithintruth.bandcamp.com/ Mr. Fiel picked a hihglighted track and here is the reason why: Aqua Bassino - aaaakkkaaaaooa During my college years, I’m sure there were plenty of sensible things I could have spent my student loan on. I chose to buy records instead. The now-defunct Indigo Records in Darshan Udvar was packed with F Communications releases. I had been eyeing Aqua Bassino’s first album, Beat’s N Bobs, for a few months. Eventually, I took the plunge and bought it. Luckily, nobody else got there before me. Scottish producer Jason Robertson, better known as Aqua Bassino, moves between deep house and downtempo, blending jazz, afro and ambient elements remarkably well, topped off with delicate vocals. It’s pretty crazy that within roughly a single year, three albums were released: St. Germain’s Tourist, Llorca’s New Comer, and Bassino’s Beat’s N Bobs. And all three came out on the legendary French label F Communications, founded by Laurent Garnier. And why is it worth constantly digging for music? Well, Aqua Bassino may not have released dozens of records, and he hasn’t been active for a very long time, but this year, out of curiosity, I searched for his name on Bandcamp. And there it was: in 2018, he had quietly released a self-released record online, and, incredibly, it had exactly the same sound that I’ve loved for 25 years, the same sound that makes me pull his records off the shelf and put them on at home several times a year. Naturally, I had to listen immediately, followed by an instant purchase. I picked the track aaaakkkaaaaooa from that 2018 EP for the 7tales selection. /Mr. Fiel/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7tales is a rare and eclectic musical journey built from personal favorites collected over many years.
