Psalms 35 - O Lord, My Strong Defender

(Verse 1) O Lord, my strong Defender, arise and plead my cause! Take up Your shield and buckler, stand for me in the wars. Against my cruel pursuers, O draw the spear and sword! And say unto my spirit, "I am your great reward." (Chorus) Awake, O Lord, and see! My soul doth cry to Thee. In Thy salvation I am strong; To Thee I raise my song. (Verse 2) Let shame fall on the wicked who seek my soul to kill; Let them be turned to confusion who plot against me still. Let them be as the chaff before the driving wind, While Thy good angel drives them in their sinfulness of mind. (Chorus) Awake, O Lord, and see! My soul doth cry to Thee. In Thy salvation I am strong; To Thee I raise my song. (Verse 3) For without cause they hid their net, my harmless soul to snare, And dug a pit to take my life, but Thou, O Lord, art there. My soul shall be joyful in Thee, in Thy salvation glad; My very bones shall cry aloud, "O Lord, who is like God?" (Chorus) Awake, O Lord, and see! My soul doth cry to Thee. In Thy salvation I am strong; To Thee I raise my song. (Verse 4) How long, O Lord, wilt Thou look on while they exalt their might? Redeem my soul from violence; restore me to the light.
