I went on a Tokyo tonkotsu ramen tour to hunt down some of the best pork bone ramen in Japan! 🍜🇯🇵 Tonkotsu is one of the major styles of Japanese ramen, famous for its rich, creamy pork bone broth. This time I'm visiting three popular ramen shops around Tokyo to find my favorite. First up is Ichiran, one of Japan's most famous ramen chains. I actually tried Ichiran once before and left disappointed, so this time I'm giving it a second chance — with very different results. Next, I visit another famous tonkotsu ramen shop and load up my bowl with some of the different toppings and fixings available at the table. Finally, I wait about 40 minutes to try one more popular bowl of tonkotsu ramen, complete with thick slices of juicy pork. After eating all three, there's one clear winner for me: Ichiran. Its incredibly rich, creamy and flavorful broth doesn't just make it my favorite tonkotsu of the day — it helps make tonkotsu my favorite style of ramen overall. Which Japanese ramen style is your favorite — tonkotsu, miso, shoyu or shio? Let me know in the comments! And check out my other Tokyo ramen tours to see how all four styles compare.
