I tried a 20-piece sushi omakase in Kamakura, Japan — and most of the sushi was completely new to me! 🍣🇯🇵
While exploring the temples and bamboo forests of Kamakura, I stop at a traditional sushi restaurant called Wasabi and leave my entire meal in the hands of the sushi chef.
That's the idea behind omakase: instead of choosing what you want, you leave it up to the chef and eat each piece as it's prepared.
And this meal gets pretty wild.
I try everything from kinmedai and chutoro to abalone, sea snail, mantis shrimp, crab, squid, saltwater eel and plenty of fish I'd never even heard of before. The chef also serves his own unique kanpyo roll loaded with fresh wasabi before finishing the meal with sweet tamagoyaki.
Some pieces are incredible. Some are definitely not for me. But after 20 pieces of sushi, this turns into one of the most unusual sushi experiences I've ever had in Japan.
Which piece of sushi looked the best to you? Let me know in the comments!
