‪@RememberToRewind‬ In 1957, a 22-year-old singer bought his parents a mansion called Graceland. Seventeen months later, his mother was gone. How did a boy born in a two-room house in Mississippi become the King of Rock and Roll, and what did that fame cost him? This is the story of Elvis Presley and of Gladys, the mother he was closest to. It begins in Tupelo, Mississippi, where his twin brother, Jesse Garon, was stillborn. It follows the gospel music that shaped him, his first guitar, and the move to Memphis. In 1953 he walked into the Memphis Recording Service, where Marion Keisker wrote a short note beside his name: "Good ballad singer. Hold." From there, we follow the night at Sun Records when "That's All Right" changed everything, "Heartbreak Hotel," and the record-breaking appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. Then come the Army years and the loss that left him broken, meeting Priscilla Beaulieu in Germany, and the long years of movies away from the stage. The story continues with the 1968 Comeback Special and "If I Can Dream," the Las Vegas residency, and the Aloha from Hawaii concert broadcast by satellite. Finally, we look at what happened away from the spotlight, the controversy that followed, and the legacy that still surrounds Graceland today.
