Does life actually get better after residency? In this vlog, I take you through a mix of shift days and days off as a hospitalist attending - admitting-only shifts at Stanford, long runs along the SF waterfront, Costco errands, back-to-back meetings, and a weekend that was mostly sleep. I promise you: it does get better!!! I truly feel like it's been SO NICE recently. Along the way, I share some clinical pearls from the week's cases: Type A vs. Type B lactic acidosis (hypoperfusion vs. metformin, cirrhosis, and more) Adrenal insufficiency and why stress-dose steroids matter The things we forget in the hospital: opioid-induced constipation and med reconciliation (e.g., restarting metformin instead of discharging on insulin) I also talk about "efficiency only comes after proficiency," and how I use runs and drives to stay connected with family (hope this is somewhat helpful) 1.
