Scientists Found the Most Scottish DNA in Europe — And It Isn't Scotland Scots have turned up in more places than almost any people of their size. Scottish soldiers fought for the kings of France and the kings of Sweden. Scottish merchants filled the towns of Poland in their thousands. Scottish regiments served the Dutch Republic for two hundred years. And that's before you count the millions who went to America, Canada and Australia. But where in Europe did they actually leave the most DNA, outside Scotland itself? And the answer is twelve miles away, across a stretch of water you can see across on a clear day.
