"The mind is also an element: the knower element. Each one arises and extinguishes. It’s not a single mind. Many people think they have a permanent mind – Once they die, their mind goes out of the old body to enter a new body. To think that the mind is permanent is a wrong view. They don’t know that the mind arises and extinguishes all the time. If we don’t practice enough, we might believe there’s only one mind. Only 1 mind that goes to sense at the eyes, the ears, the nose, the tongue, the body, and goes to think. This view is only because our insight is insufficient. With practice, we’ll see that the mind extinguishes wherever it arises, but it does so continuously and quickly. The mind that arises at the eyes, the ears, the mind or anywhere arises and extinguishes right there. The mind that arises at the eyes and the ears are different and work differently, it goes to see or to hear accordingly. We can’t use our ears to see. The mind arises and extinguishes in our 6 sense bases."
