Phonons in one dimension: waves on a mass-spring chain

Setting up and solving a classical equation of motion for the displacement of the nth particle in a 1D mass-spring chain, then spending some time interpreting the results. About me: I studied Physics at the University of Cambridge, then stayed on to get a PhD in Astronomy. During my PhD, I also spent four years teaching Physics undergraduates at the university.
