Bibbulmun Track - day 55

Day 55 - Mt. Chance to Dog Pool September 27, 2025 19.1 km day, out of camp at 6:55. Motivation to leave camp early was the three weird girls who showed up late the previous afternoon and basically ignored the three of us despite sleeping in the same shelter. You do you, I guess. Day started with the now familiar swampy plains. The flora changed with the kilometres as previously, and there was some wading but really only a couple of long stretches. The last 12.5 km was a quite dull road walk along a wide firebreak, with scrub and small trees on the right and on the left mostly just the trees as it was burned either by bushfires or a prescribed burn operation. Eventually there was a left turn and the last perhaps 1.5 km were nicer with large Karri trees and other forest both sides. Dog Pool itself is a lovely site, with a strongly flowing river and a bridge across to get to the hut. We set up camp, washed the swamp off our feet in the river, and even had time for some sunbathing as we arrived just after midday. Met Sarah who arrived a bit later on, doing her sobo thru, and Rhea arrived later still. Good conversations had, nice to have someone normal in the shelter with us after last night's experience. I think it was late on this day that Miles showed up, a trail runner / ultralighter we'd met early on in the hike briefly when he stopped in to sign the trail log at a shelter we were staying at.
