Steeple Tip Silas | Southern Gothic Dark Americana (Official Full Lyric Video)

Southern Gothic dark country story song with rolling banjo, blues harmonica and drowned-church folklore — Steeple Tip Silas. A lake that swallowed a small Southern town, a steeple tip standing out of the water, and the old rule nobody explains. Don't row past the steeple till you've heard the Sunday bell. ▶ MORE SOUTHERN GOTHIC STORY SONGS    • Southern Gothic Story Songs   ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE STORY ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Granddaddy Silas kept a johnboat painted Sunday blue, and every Sunday he wore his tie and polished shoes to row out to his pew. Grandma wrapped two plates in a dishrag and never had to say where they were going. The rule in the family was short: keep your oar dry past the weather vane, don't dip it in the cross, and say your amen to the water. Uncle Dewey dropped a line off the steeple on a Saturday, for a bet, and reeled up a hymn book fat as bread. Grandma dried it on the clothesline between the sheets and socks. It dried into a hymn nobody knew, and she locked it in a box. One Tuesday his grandson rowed out just to see. He whistled like it was a game, dipped his oar in the steeple's shadow, and the water leaned in to learn his name. Granddaddy passed in a dry September, when the lake line dropped so low the steeple stood up like a finger. Grandma wrapped two plates that Sunday and said one of them was for the boy. The water took the pews. It never took the Sunday. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Welcome to Holler Signal.
