Don't fall in love with your plan. Fall in love with your vision.
One of the biggest leadership mistakes is becoming so attached to a strategy that you lose sight of what you're actually trying to accomplish.
In this video, Dave Anderson explains why effective leadership starts with a compelling vision, how to build a strategy that moves your team toward that vision, and why great leaders remain flexible enough to adjust their plans when circumstances change.
Your vision should stretch people, inspire them, unite them, and challenge them to become better. It should give everyone a clear understanding of where the organization is going and why their work matters.
But having a vision isn't enough.
Leaders must communicate that vision constantly, keep it in front of their people, and create the commitment necessary to bring it to life.
Dave explains why vision must always precede strategy. You have to know where you're going before you can determine the best way to get there.
And once the direction is clear, the next challenge is choosing the right strategy.
Not every strategy has equal value. The best approach isn't necessarily the easiest, cheapest, most popular, or most convenient. It's the one most likely to move your organization toward its goals.
That also means understanding when to make adjustments.
Just as great athletic coaches change their game plans at halftime, effective leaders recognize when a strategy isn't working and have the discipline to change course without abandoning their vision.
Dave also explains why collaboration is essential to better leadership decisions.
Leaders don't need to have every idea, solve every problem, or do all the talking. By involving employees in decisions, problem-solving, product development, and improving the customer experience, leaders gain perspectives they might otherwise miss.
And when people have a voice in creating the plan, they're more likely to support it.
They weigh in, and then they buy in.
Finally, Dave challenges leaders to stop spending so much time reviewing results that they lose touch with the people and activities driving those results.
Great leaders stay engaged, spend time in the trenches, recognize what's coming, and make changes before they're forced to.
Because there's a major difference between setting the pace in your industry and constantly playing catch-up.
In this video, you'll learn:

• Why the easiest strategy isn't always the most effective
• How to remain focused on your goals while staying flexible with your plans
