Milarepa Gurma Vol 2
The Scared Song Of Impermanence
Je Mikyo Kyi
To the Lord, the compassionate one, whose essence is the Unshakable One,
Following the sacred instructions of Marpa the Translator
Within this homeland, a prison built by demons,
There arose a teacher of impermanence and illusion
Upon this very precious and virtuous teacher,
Bestow your blessings, that I may gain unwavering certainty.
All things that appear and exist in this world.
Are impermanent, unstable, ever-changing, and passing away.
In particular, the things of samsara have no lasting essence.
Therefore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
Instead of pursuing empty worldly pursuits,
I will go and practice the essential Dharma of the divine.
When the father is here, the son is not
When the son is there, the father is no more.
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
There fore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
When the mother is there, the son is not
When the son arrives, the aged mother has passed away.
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
Therefore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
While the sister is there, brother is not
When the brother arrive, the sister is gone
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
Therefore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
When sacred Dharma is present, there is no service.
When service arrives, suffering comes like drops of rain.
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
Therefore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
When there is a house, the is no owner
When the owner returns, the house has fallen apart.
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
Therefore, I devote myself to the essential Dharma of the divine.
When there is a field ready for harvest, there is no owner to tend it.
When the owner finally returns, weeds have already taken over the field
Even when both are together, there is no lasting essence.
The owner therefore turns to the essential Dharma—the spiritual path that has true meaning.
homeland, my father’s house, my father’s fields and all such things
All belong to this samsara, where nothing has lasting essence.
Let whoever desires these things without true essence take them
As for me, I shall go forth to seek liberation.
I go to meditate at Drak Kar Ta-so
I, the yogi, go forth to seek liberation.
O kind and compassionate father, Marpa the Translator,
Bless this wandering hermit, that I may attain realization.
