Solo de Concours by the French composer Henri Rabaud
Performed by Duo Suaralma:
Piano: Rianldi Yonathan Alvin
Clarinet: Isidro Santos Galindo
Henri Rabaud was a French composer and conductor who lived from 1873 to 1949. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1894. Rabaud composed operas, orchestral works, chamber music, and songs, combining the French musical tradition with influences from German Romanticism. He later became director of the Paris Conservatoire and was an important figure in French musical education.
Solo de concours, composed in 1901, is a virtuosic work written for the annual competition at the Paris Conservatoire. It showcases the clarinet’s expressive and technical possibilities, combining lyrical passages with demanding runs, articulation, and dynamic contrasts. The piano provides both accompaniment and dialogue with the clarinet, creating a work that is elegant, dramatic, and distinctly French in character.
