Stationeers | Mars Brutal Start — E04: Shower, Toilet and the First Water Loop

The base can breathe and it can grow potatoes. What it cannot do yet is keep its owner comfortable — and on Mars a man out of his suit needs a toilet and a shower before anything else. Both of them need water, and water turns out to be the hardest part of the build. The episode starts with room: a second room goes up next to the old one out of frames, walls, a window and a set of stairs, lit by the same lamp and floored with iron sheets. Then the shopping list runs into silicon — the toilet needs it and the stock is almost empty, so it is out to the flats with a beacon cartridge and a detector instead of the ore scanner that is still out of reach. Smelting it back home means 900 kelvin and pressure the little furnace cannot hold, so the pressure comes down first and the furnace takes its time. With silicon in hand the plumbing goes in: a toilet, an unpowered shower, clean water in and polluted water out, and an insulated pipe standing in for a tank because the real one costs more than the base has. The toilet then refuses the water — it is polluted, not with waste but with gases dissolved in the pipe. Pulling them out leaves the room full of humidity instead, and rather than build a filtering chain the cheap way wins: open the frames, let the room blow down to vacuum, pump it back up clean. By the end the suit comes off, the shower runs, the refreshed bonus puts movement at 105% and tool speed at 110%, and the base has a small water loop that is not really a loop yet — a canister, a pipe and enough capacity to grow into.
