미국의 길 위에서 혼자 여행하며 만나는 풍경과 이야기. 모터홈, 지프, 오프로드, 하이킹, 사진 그리고 미국 로드트립의 순간들을 기록합니다. 뜨는 풍경을 보고 싶어서 평소보다 좀 더 일찍 일어났습니다 I woke up a little earlier than usual because I wanted to watch the sunrise 식은 빵 한 조각과 따뜻한 커피 한 잔을 챙겨 밖으로 나왔습니다 I grabbed a piece of cold bread and a cup of hot coffee and headed outside 옷을 몇 겹이나 껴입었는데도 새벽 공기는 무척이나 차갑습니다 Even with several layers of clothing on, the early morning air is incredibly cold 차 안 가득 은은하게 퍼지는 커피 향이 이른 새벽의 기분을 한결 좋게 만들어 줍니다 The gentle aroma of coffee filling the car makes this early morning feel even better 휘트니산(Mount Whitney)의 봉우리들이 떠오르는 태양빛에 서서히 붉게 물들어 갑니다 The peaks of Mount Whitney slowly turn red in the light of the rising sun 눈 덮인 산골짜기 곳곳에는 밤새 추위에 떨고 있던 소나무들이 서 있고, 그 가지 끝에도 조금씩 아침 햇살의 온기가 스며듭니다 Throughout the snow-covered mountain valleys, pine trees stand after enduring the cold all night, and the warmth of the morning sunlight slowly reaches the tips of their branches 이따금 불어오는 짓궂은 바람은 고요히 잠들어 있던 은빛 눈을 깨워 이리저리 흩날려 보냅니다 Every now and then, a mischievous gust of wind awakens the peacefully sleeping silver-white snow, sending it swirling in every direction 차갑게 얼어붙은 설산도 붉은 태양빛을 받아 어느새 따뜻한 빛깔로 물들어 갑니다 Even the frozen, snow-covered mountains take on a warm glow as they catch the reddish light of the rising sun 눈부시게 쏟아지는 햇살에 잠시 눈을 찡그립니다 I squint for a moment against the dazzling sunlight 지금 내 눈앞에 펼쳐진 이 풍경은 언제든 다시 볼 수 있는 그런 평범한 모습은 아닐 것입니다 The scenery unfolding before my eyes is not something ordinary that I can come back and see anytime 같은 장소에 다시 서더라도 오늘의 빛과 구름, 그리고 이 순간의 느낌까지 다시 만날 수는 없을 테니까요 Even if I stand in this very same place again, I may never experience today’s light, clouds, and the feeling of this moment in quite the same way 쉽게 발걸음이 떨어지지 않습니다 이 아름다운 순간을 오래도록 눈에 담아두고 싶습니다 I find it hard to walk away I want to hold on to this beautiful moment and keep it in my memory for a long time 아름다운 해돋이를 감상하고 산을 내려오던 중… While driving down the mountain after enjoying the beautiful sunrise… 갑자기 조수석 쪽 어딘가에서 둔탁한 소리가 연거푸 들리기 시작했습니다 Suddenly, I started hearing a series of dull thumping sounds coming from somewhere on the passenger side 2022년, 지금의 지프로 바꾼 이후 단 한 번도 펑크가 나지 않았던 타이어에 문제가 생긴 것입니다 Since switching to my current Jeep in 2022, I had never had a flat tire, but now something had gone wrong with one of the tires 급하게 차에서 내려 타이어 상태를 확인했습니다 I quickly got out of the Jeep to check the tire 타이어 옆면이 날카로운 무언가에 베인 듯 찢어져 있었고, 공기는 이미 거의 빠져나간 상태였습니다 The tire’s sidewall was torn as if something sharp had sliced through it, and almost all the air had already escaped 아… Ah… 산꼭대기에서 보았던 날카로운 돌들이 문득 떠올랐습니다 I suddenly remembered the sharp rocks I had seen near the top of the mountain 아마도 그 녀석들 중 하나가 범인이 아니었을까 싶습니다 I suspect one of those rocks might have been the culprit 차를 안전한 곳에 다시 세우고 타이어 상태를 자세히 확인했습니다 I pulled over again in a safe spot and took a closer look at the tire 역시나 상황은 좋지 않았습니다 Just as I suspected, things didn’t look good 어쩔 수 없이 평소 가지고 다니던 타이어 응급 수리 키트와 오프로드용 잭, 그리고 각종 수리 공구들을 꺼냈습니다 I had no choice but to pull out the emergency tire repair kit, off-road jack, and various repair tools that I always carry with me 산속에서 더 큰 문제가 생기기 전에 급한 대로 조치를 취했습니다 I made a temporary emergency repair before things could get any worse out in the mountains 다행히 응급 상황을 잘 넘기고 RV 캠프그라운드까지 무사히 돌아올 수 있었습니다 Fortunately, I managed to get through the emergency and make it safely back to the RV campground 하지만 아직 끝난 것은 아니었습니다 But it wasn’t over yet 타이어를 제대로 수리하기 위해 론파인(Lone Pine) 시내에 있는 NAPA Auto Parts를 방문했습니다 To properly repair the tire, I visited NAPA Auto Parts in the town of Lone Pine 필요한 수리 용품들을 구입한 뒤, 점심으로 먹을 햄버거를 주문하기 위해 Carl’s Jr.에도 잠시 들렀습니다 After buying the repair supplies I needed, I also stopped by Carl’s Jr. to order a hamburger for lunch RV 캠프그라운드로 돌아와 문제가 생긴 타이어를 스페어타이어로 교체했습니다 Back at the RV campground, I replaced the damaged tire with my spare 그리고 손상된 타이어를 수리하고, 다른 타이어들까지 꼼꼼하게 점검했습니다 Then I repaired the damaged tire and carefully inspected all the other tires as well 예상하지 못했던 타이어 사고 때문에 계획했던 다른 일정들은 모두 멈춰야 했습니다 Because of the unexpected tire trouble, I had to put all my other plans on hold 하지만 오늘도 여행은 저에게 또 하나의 교훈을 남겨 주었습니다 But once again, today’s journey taught me another valuable lesson 자연 앞에서는 언제나 겸손해야 한다는 사실을 말입니다 That we must always remain humble in the face of nature 아름다운 풍경을 마주하는 순간에도 예상치 못한 위험은 늘 가까이에 있다는 것을 다시 한번 깨달았습니다 I was reminded once again that even while surrounded by beautiful scenery, unexpected dangers can always be close by 그래도 무사히 돌아왔으니 다행입니다 Still, I’m grateful that I made it back safely 생각해 보니… Come to think of it… 오늘 해돋이 구경값을 참 비싸게도 치렀습니다… 씁쓸 I sure paid a pretty steep price to watch today’s sunrise… Oh well #지프랭글러 #타이어펑크 #rvlife #JeepWrangler #SoloRVTravel Across America by road — solo travel, motorhome life, Jeep adventures, hiking, photography, and the places I discover along the way.
