West was acclaimed like never before after the release of AFROAMERICA, receiving praise as one of the best rap albums and one of the best beginnings for rap in the 2010s. Kanye wanted to continue expanding his sound until he gradually noticed the birth of experimental Hip Hop, one very different from the one he knew. Industrial sounds that were difficult to hear but at one point they stayed in your head with bands like Death Grips with The Money Store being one of his favorites. He tried to talk to them, but they ignored his messages, so after so much insistence, West decided to make his own experimental album with difficult-to-digest sounds and lyrics that went very out of their own. West traveled to Paris to work on his new album, which aimed to be wild, industrial, controversial, and above all, to put him on a pedestal. Kanye was so obsessed with this project that he recorded several songs a day, but days before its release, he had to cut songs to make the album easier to listen.
