"The Firebird" takes flight at the 2026 Tuesday Musical Final Round/Winners Concert

The first piano solo of the Tuesday Musical Final Round/Winners Concert of 2026 was Movements from "The Firebird," I. Danse Infernale and III. Finale Maria, by Igor Stravinsky and arranged by Guido Agosti, performed by doctoral candidate Georgios Kyriazidis. Georgios was invited to the final round after taking the 1st Place Marilyn Fischer & Joan Marie Scherer Scholarship, piano category, at the 2026 Tuesday Musical Annual Scholarship Competition in March at The University of Akron. Born in Greece, Georgios began his musical journey at age five. After graduating under the guidance of pianist Lambis Vassiliadis, he traveled to the United States to further his education with a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University under Dr. Solungga Liu. Currently, he is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Michael Chertock. Georgios has given solo and chamber performances at various venues in Europe and the United States, including the Athens Concert Hall, Teatro Tina di Lorenzo, as well as Bryan Recital Hall. Begun in 1955 and with significant scholarships, Tuesday Musical’s annual competition is widely recognized as the best of its kind in Ohio for talented students embarking on careers as music educators and performers.
