I needed a way to swap an entire character, abilities, weapons, animations and stats. Without rewriting half the game every time.
So this week, I built the character system for my first multiplayer game and used it to create my first proper playable class: the GunSmith.
What should have taken a day quickly became a mess of networking bugs, broken animations and questionable programming decisions.
But technically… it works.
If you’ve got ideas for abilities, utility skills or even a better name than “GunSmith” let me know in the comments.
I've started more games than I can count... but I've never actually released one.
Welcome to To Release - my attempt to finally change that.
Every two weeks, I'll be sharing the journey of building my first multiplayer game from scratch. You'll see everything from programming and pixel art to design mistakes, bugs, rewrites, and the occasional existential crisis.
Whether you're a fellow developer or just enjoy watching ambitious projects come to life, I hope you'll enjoy following the journey.
