TRUMP’S ‘ANNIHILATION’ THREAT: IRAN WAR ESCALATES AS HOUTHI-SAUDI FRONT OPENS By Saurabh Shukla Donald Trump has taken the Iran confrontation to the UN stage — threatening to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic if diplomacy fails, even as Washington and Tehran reportedly made direct contact on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The Iranian delegation walked out during Trump’s speech. Tehran is also pushing Parliament to consider withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the crisis. And the conflict is spreading beyond Iran. The Houthis have claimed they shot down a Saudi F-15 over Yemen — a claim Saudi Arabia has not confirmed and which remains independently unverified. So, is Washington moving toward a negotiated settlement — or preparing for another escalation? [01:07] TRUMP’S ULTIMATUM AT UNGA At the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump presented Iran with a stark choice: negotiate a deal or face what he described as the possible “annihilation” of the Islamic Republic. But there is another signal beneath the rhetoric. Trump also said he believed a deal could emerge after the US midterm elections — while later confirming that American and Iranian officials had met on the sidelines of the UN.
