Gijón, Asturias 🇪🇸 is where my Camino del Norte journey begins — but this beautiful city deserves to be explored before taking the first step. In this video, I take you through some of the places that make Gijón so special: the spectacular San Lorenzo Beach and its famous promenade, historic Cimavilla, Cerro de Santa Catalina and Eduardo Chillida’s Elogio del Horizonte, the city’s fascinating industrial history, Universidad Laboral, and the Atlantic Botanical Garden. Gijón has been shaped by the Cantabrian Sea, by generations of workers, by industry, by change — and by its relationship with nature. And perhaps that makes it the perfect place to begin a Camino. Because the Camino isn’t only about reaching Santiago. It’s about curiosity, movement, discovery, unexpected moments and being open to whatever is waiting around the next corner.
