Not all hikes have to be out on the land! Join me and the girls for a summertime tour of the town where we've lived for over seven years. Stops include our famous Inukshuk, the historic nickel mine, and Red Top Variety Shop. There's so much more to see here, but this is a well-scoped walk for three ice-cream-motivated kids. You can explore more on the west side of town, and find the hardware store and Hutu Coffee Shop, snake through Old Town, or loop through any of the neighborhoods. In seven years, we've always found this town safe and welcoming. If you'd like to see the nickel mine in its heyday, check out the short documentary People of the Rock from 1961 (warning for outdated terms). https://www.nfb.ca/film/people-of-the... There's much more to the story than this, but it's a start for those interested in mining history. We hiked this on July 8th, 2026. If you'd like to follow us on this hike, we started in front of Katimavik Suites, at 62.815763, -92.088007.
