Every spacecraft ever set down on Mars is still there. The heaviest one weighed about 1,025 kilograms, and nothing has ever launched back off the surface. So what happens when we try to land a crew? In this video we look at why the late-2026 Mars window is passing without a Starship, and why the real wall is not the flight but the landing and the trip home. We cover how thin air and sheer weight make landing a ship the size of Starship so hard, what rocket exhaust does to Martian soil (from Phoenix and InSight to China's Tianwen-1), the landing-pad paradox, and why launching from another planet has never been done. We also follow the story of Mars Sample Return, the plan to bring home rock samples that Congress declined to fund, and why every serious crew plan depends on making fuel on Mars, with the MOXIE experiment as the first small test.
