To change the oil on your 2016 BMW 320i, you will need to safely lift the vehicle, drain the old oil, and replace the cartridge-style filter. Drain the Oil. Prep the Engine: Open the oil filler cap under the hood to release the vacuum and allow the oil to drain faster. Lift the Car: Jack up the front of the car and secure it firmly on jack stands. Locate the Drain Plug: Slide under the vehicle and remove the small access panel in the underbelly tray to reach the oil pan. -Drain: Place your oil catch pan underneath, remove the drain plug, and let the old oil drain out completely. Replace the Oil Filter. Locate the Filter: The oil filter housing is located on the top, passenger side of the engine. Remove the Old Filter: Loosen the filter cap and pull it out.
