The Tricolor collapse explained: how a Dallas used-car lender that sold cars and lent its customers the money to buy them collapsed in September 2025 owing its lenders more than $900 million, and how prosecutors say the same car loans were pledged to more than one bank. Collapse Files is the US Tax Desk documentary series on companies that failed and the lenders and investors caught in them. This case is for anyone in private credit, structured finance or fund finance: how a subprime auto lender funds itself through bank warehouse lines and bonds backed by car loans, what the court-appointed trustee found, who was left with the losses (Fifth Third, JPMorgan, Barclays and the bondholders), Jamie Dimon's "cockroach" warning, and the three places the lenders went wrong. Related terms: private credit, warehouse facility, securitization, double pledging, Chapter 7. Daniel Chu denies the charges and has pleaded not guilty. No court has ruled on the allegations against him or against the banks. Two former executives, Jerome Kollar and Ameryn Seibold, and the former chief operating officer, David Goodgame, have pleaded guilty and are cooperating.
