Wild weather has an impact this week as we start our walk at 265 meters above sea level around Barbury Castle, an old Iron Age hill fort which was used by the Romans, Saxons and American GIs. Following the Ridgeway along the top of Smeathe's Ridge we make our way to a series of villages with the name "Ogbourne," named after the river Og. Climbing back up onto the Marlborough Downs along flint and chalk byways which criss cross the open area. Looping back to rejoin the route which took us along The Ridgeway (Britains oldest road) before arriving back at our start point of Barbury Castle car park which is attached to this ancient hill fort.
