🎶 Once Upon A Time… Robbie Shakespeare 1953~2021 🔥 The Bass That Carried Reggae ✨ Original Bass Reggae Tribute EN/FR ✨ There are musicians who stand in front of the light. And there are musicians who carry the light from below. Robbie Shakespeare was one of them. A bass player. A foundation builder. A rhythm architect. A man whose sound did not need to speak loudly to shake the earth. This original tribute by Lyric Poupette Production honors Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare, known to the world as Robbie Shakespeare, one of the greatest bass players in reggae history and one half of the legendary duo Sly & Robbie with drummer Sly Dunbar. Together, they became known as The Riddim Twins. But before the legend, there was a young man listening. Before the deep basslines, before the studios, before the world stages, before the international collaborations, there was a beginning. Robbie first tried acoustic guitar and drums. Then he heard the depth of the bass. He heard Aston “Family Man” Barrett. And something inside him knew. That was the sound. That was the instrument. That was the foundation. He wanted to learn the bass. He entered the studio almost by helping others first, carrying and setting up drums, watching, listening, waiting, observing hands, lines, silence and rhythm. This is how a foundation is born. Not always under the spotlight. Sometimes beside the walls. Sometimes in the shadows. Sometimes through patience, respect and hunger to learn. Robbie Shakespeare did not only play bass. He helped reggae breathe. With Sly Dunbar, his bass became one of the deepest engines of Jamaican music. Their sound moved through roots reggae, dub, rockers, lovers rock, dancehall, pop, funk and international music. Their rhythm carried voices, rebels, lovers, legends, studios and generations. Robbie Shakespeare played, recorded, produced or built rhythm foundations with names that show the true size of his legacy: Peter Tosh Bunny Wailer Black Uhuru Burning Spear Dennis Brown Gregory Isaacs U-Roy Yellowman Sugar Minott Augustus Pablo Jimmy Cliff Junior Murvin Maxi Priest Chaka Demus & Pliers Toots and the Maytals The Revolutionaries The Aggrovators Taxi Gang Sly & Robbie And far beyond Jamaica, his bass travelled across styles, borders and generations with artists such as: Grace Jones Bob Dylan The Rolling Stones Mick Jagger Serge Gainsbourg No Doubt Herbie Hancock Gwen Guthrie Ian Dury Joan Armatrading Madonna The Fugees Sinéad O’Connor Joe Cocker Simply Red James Brown Carly Simon Nona Hendryx This is the mark of a true foundation musician. Many people know the singers. Many people remember the voices. But behind so many voices, there was a bassline. Behind so many songs, there was a pulse. Behind so many classics, there was Robbie. He played from the shadows, but the world moved because of him. This tribute was created to bring that shadow into the light. To honor the boy who listened. The student who learned. The bass player who became a master. The man who helped carry reggae to the world. This is not a cover. This is not a remix. This is an original reggae tribute creation by Lyric Poupette Production.
