About a mile from California Highway 1's southern terminus at Interstate 5, is the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) monument which is to resemble a Richfield tower. For travelers experiencing the PCH this is usually a celebration or inaugural spot, depending on which direction they take. The southern terminus of "the 1" is at the beach community of Dana Point, California. The tower has some historical information beneath it, including history of the PCH as well as Dana Point.
I also take you to the nearby California Historic Landmark plaque (the eastern one) as well as Watermen's Plaza, which pays tribute to surfing. A few statues and markers related to the sport are present, as I show you around.
This was my first stop on my PCH road trip.
