Verdi - La Traviata - Sutherland, Pavarotti, Milnes / Bonynge - Met. N.Y, 22 October 1970

This recording was made in the public by a friend from New York .....thanks to Tony ! It was done in a box near the stage, The voices come through very clearly. It was the first time that Pavarotti sang this role at the Met. He replaced the ill Carlo Bergonzi, who was scheduled to sing this performance. Joan Sutherland has sung this opera many times since 1960. The singing was absolutely top for both Sutherland and Pavarotti. And then there was Sherill Milnes. So all stars in the operaworld those days ! Joan Sutherland sang her Violetta at the Met with 5 different top singers in 1970 : Aragall, Domingo, Kraus, Bergonzi and of course Pavarotti. Enjoy this wonderful performance !
