Deconstructing Oh! Darling - The Beatles (Isolated Tracks)

Oh! Darling was written by Paul sometime after the White Album's releases. The song was first heard during the Get Back sessions on January 3rd 1969. On January 16 Paul recorded a quick demo at Twickenham being the only song properly recorded before the move to Apple studios. It wasn't until April 20 that the song would finally be recorded. The basic track had Ringo on drums, Paul on piano, John on guitar, and George on a Fender VI bass seemingly continuing the trend of bass duties being taken by the other members when Paul was on piano. Although some takes featured Billy Preston on organ, such as take 4 heard here:    • The Beatles - Oh! Darling (Take 4 / Audio)  , the final take 26, which was chosen as the best, either didn't have Billy playing or his contribution was deemed unnecessary for the final mix. The main thing Paul wanted right on the song was the vocals. So over the next 3 months Paul would attempt to create the perfect vocals. The first attempt was on April 26, 1969 with Paul arriving before the Octopus's Garden session at 4:30pm. Paul attempted to perfect his vocal continuously arriving early to record new attempts. Coming in almost everyday during the Abbey Road sessions with Engineer Alan Parsons remembering that, "Perhaps my main memory of the 'Abbey Road' sessions is of Paul coming into Studio Three at two o'clock or 2:30 each afternoon, on his own, to do the vocal on 'Oh! Darling." It wasn't until July 23rd that Paul recorded a vocal he was happy. On August 11th John, Paul, and George gathered around the mic adding harmony vocals to Oh! Darling along with I Want You (She's So Heavy). These stems mostly come from the Rockband stems with exception of the vocals which were isolated from the 5.1 mix. The Rockband stems had an absurd amount of reverb on the snare drum, so I cleaned up the drum part and mixed it with a slightly wider stereo image.
