Lā Anā (لَا أَنَا) – "There Is No Me": an Arabic Sufi devotional song on the Names of Allah (Asmā' al-Ḥusnā), as an animated lyric video with Arabic lyrics and English translation. "Your Names are a light that ran through my tears… in the trace of Your remembrance, there is no me." ▶ ABOUT THIS VIDEO Lā Anā ("There Is No Me") is a meditation on fanā': the self dissolving in the remembrance of God (dhikr). Through eight of the Beautiful Names of Allah (al-Awwal, al-Ākhir, aẓ-Ẓāhir, al-Bāṭin, ar-Razzāq, ar-Raḥīm, al-Qahhār and al-Jabbār) the song travels from the first breath to the last, from longing to being unveiled in light. The film is a story without faces: 20 scenes of the places where the soul finds God. A traveller under the Milky Way. Night prayer by candlelight. A newborn's first adhan at dawn. A mother's vigil beside a hospital bed. A small boat in a storm. A manuscript library and a rooftop observatory, with Ibn al-Haytham's camera obscura and al-Fārisī's rainbow. Tawaf around the Kaaba. The Green Dome in Madinah. Every frame (Islamic geometry, Arabic calligraphy, light and particles) is generated in code and rendered frame by frame in 1080p. ADAB: No faces are shown.
