Our FORTY-FIRST visit takes us to Friendship Hill National Historic Site in Point Marion, PA! Perched along the banks of the Monongahela River, Friendship Hill preserves the home of Albert Gallatin, one of the most influential figures of the early American republic. A Swiss immigrant who arrived in America with little more than ambition, Gallatin became a statesman, diplomat, Treasury Secretary, and one of Thomas Jefferson’s closest political allies. Although Gallatin owned Friendship Hill for decades, his political career kept him constantly on the move. He spent surprisingly little time at the home, with his years of public service often taking him far from Pennsylvania. The house nevertheless remained an important part of his life and legacy, and even welcomed notable visitors, including the Marquis de Lafayette. Today, Friendship Hill offers a glimpse into the life of a man who helped shape the young United States — and a reminder that some of America's most important stories can be found far beyond the nation's most famous landmarks.
