In this message, Pastor Lee continues the How to Study the Bible series by focusing on the first step: observation. Using Mark 4 and the story of Jesus calming the storm, he demonstrates how slowing down and paying attention to repeated words, contrasts, commands, questions, cause and effect, people, places, and surrounding context can reveal what is happening in a passage. As the study expands into Mark 6 and Mark 8, we see how Scripture interprets and illuminates Scripture. The disciples repeatedly respond to what they can see—the storm, limited food, and their own lack—while Jesus demonstrates what it looks like to trust God and live from the reality of His Kingdom. Their experiences with Jesus were meant to transform the way they thought and teach them to remember what God had already done. Learning to study the Bible begins with learning to truly see what is there. As we observe carefully, remember God's faithfulness, and allow His Word to take root in our hearts, Scripture can reshape the way we think and the way we respond to the circumstances around us.
