Created by Oceanographic Magazine’s Storyteller in Residence, Mads St.Clair, this short film highlights the Wawata Topu, a group of women freedivers and spearfishers from Adara, Timor-Leste. Their story sheds light on women’s vital role in marine subsistence and coastal communities. Originally documented for Oceanographic Magazine Issue 42 as a photo story, Mads expanded the narrative into this cinematic piece to share the voices and movements of these extraordinary freedivers in motion.
