First year with a new route, consisting of 5 rounds plus a roughly 7 km long end that takes you back to the usual finish line just at the Brandenburger Tor. Also my first Berlin Marathon for my new club from Vitoria, I promise to be faster next year!
I started by chance from Group B, but since I almost didn't skate this year, I knew I wouldn't be anywhere near "fast". So I went for having fun and fun I did have. Not so much fun was the headwind, which was really strong, but on the way back it pushed you nicely, so there you go.
I ended up finding another fellow skater and had an enjoyable race, but sadly I (again) had the wrong battery in the camera, hence the last 6 km or so are missing. On the bright side, nothing interesting happened, I arrived pretty much with the other 2 skaters I was with at the end of the video, we had a nice chat and to be honest, that's one of the main reasons to go to the Berlin Marathon: You meet people from all over the world.
In the end, I finished with 1:28 h, right behind Bart Swings... wishful thinking.
I won't post the results here, you can check them on the official page: https://skating.bmw-berlin-marathon.c.... But I will say that my teammates Aura Quintana and Patxi Peula got 3rd and 4th, so I bask a bit in their glory. :)
01:15 Start
04:47 Alguien de Vitoria, muchisimas gracias por animarme! Cada vuelta!
06:20 Bart Swings has already left the peloton
13:51 Those two friendly Swedish skaters I saw a lot
23:04 Two words: Bart. Swings.
24:58 The elite pack overtakes us, including Patxi Peula and Felix Rhij...Rhji.. Rijhnen.
26:00 If I'm not wrong, those are the first ones from Group C
31:51 For 5 long minutes I tried to catch up with them and almost succeeded. Almost isn't good enough. And I'm a tactical disaster.
33:35 Pascal Briand leads the C-Pack
34:33 One miscalculation and I almost crashed
36:55 Hanna from Team Bayern was visibly struggling, but she didn't give up and joined our group
43:06 Sempach!
48:39 I got dropped out of my own group, ouch!
48:51 Kun Lun Tun was another fighter, exhausted, but didn't give up!
52:55 See that flag on the left? That was our headwind!
57:15 Alvaro Alonso de Vitoria me anima, gracias!
1:02:40 It got really crowded with group E on the road, but we got through quite nicely. But for faster groups, it was more dangerous.
01:06:07 And sometimes it was really close. But awesome costumes!
01:16:00 Off we go to the last kilometers, together with someone from Ahrensburg whose name I cannot find, but it might be Sebastian Albrecht? He was with Lun and I for most of the race.
01:17:12 Während Harald Gopp in Ulm fährt, wird Liechtenstein durch Wolfgang Büchel vertreten
01:18:55 Another one that keeps fighting: Silvano Walter
As always, if you find yourself or your friends in the video, feel free to tag them. :)
See you next year!
