From first night at the 46th Street Rock Palace, Brooklyn, NY. Background on these recordings: In the fall of ‘70, while Owsley was in prison, my friend / cousin-in-law Peter Kimble ran the soundboard for the Dead’s shows from October 24 to November 29th. The story of how this happened is in the liner notes of Dave’s Picks 51. Peter had given me the soundboard recordings of the first and last shows of that run, which we ended up sending to the Dead’s vault. At the time we thought those were the only tapes. After Peter’s death, we discovered a few more tapes. Big thanks to Jesse Jarnow and David Lemieux for helping me figure out which shows these had to be. I sent them to David Lemieux and Jeffrey Norman for consideration for a commercial release. They and Rhino ultimately decided to pass due to challenges with the tape quality. There are no tapes of some of these shows, not even known set lists, or very poor tapes of some with incomplete or incorrect setlists, so I’m excited to share these with the ears of the world. Charlie Miller has agreed to remaster these tapes so i’m just uploading a few treats while we wait for the better versions.
