I lost 33 pounds on a GLP-1 — and 8 of those pounds were muscle. Nobody warned me.
If you’re taking a GLP-1, or thinking about starting one, this is the conversation your doctor may not have had with you. Everybody talks about weight loss. Almost nobody talks about the difference between losing FAT and losing MUSCLE — and after 50, that difference is everything.
In this video I share my honest numbers from 11 months on a GLP-1, what I found when I looked past the scale, and the four things I’m doing now to protect and rebuild my muscle.
Remember L.I.F.T.:
L — Lift. Strength train about 3 days a week.
I — Intake protein. Every meal, every day.
F — Follow your numbers. Get a smart scale so you can see fat vs. muscle.
T — Talk to your doctor. Bring muscle into the conversation, even if they didn’t.
I am a Registered Nurse with over 33 years of experience, but I am not your nurse, and I am not your doctor. The content on this channel is for general educational and informational purposes only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for a conversation with your own licensed healthcare provider.
I share my personal experience — including my own body composition data — to educate and encourage, not to prescribe. Nothing here should be taken as a recommendation to start, stop, or change any medication, supplement, dosage, or exercise program. Individual results vary, and what worked for me may not be right for you.
GLP-1 medications are prescription drugs. Decisions about whether to take one, how to take one, and how to protect your health while taking one belong to you and your physician.
Always speak with your doctor or pharmacist before making changes to your medication, nutrition, or exercise routine — especially if you have a medical condition or take other medications.
If you experience any concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.
