🎙️ Host: Nazmus Sakib, Disability inclusion expert 👤 Guest Bio: Mansur Ahmed Chowdhury is a pioneering disability rights activist, development practitioner, and human rights advocate in Bangladesh. After losing his eyesight at the age of seven, he became the first blind student at the Rotary School for the Blind in 1957. He completed his BA (Honours) and MA in Public Administration from Dhaka University. Over his decades-long career, he has been instrumental in founding and leading several transformative organizations, including the Visually Impaired People's Society (VIPS), CSID, and Impact Foundation Bangladesh (which launched the renowned floating hospital, 'Jibon Tari'). On the global stage, he represented Bangladesh during the drafting of the UNCRPD in 2006. ⏱️ Timestamps / Chapters: 00:00:00 - Introduction & Guest Welcome 00:01:42 - Childhood, the Accident, & Losing Eyesight 00:05:03 - The First Braille School in Bangladesh & Early Education 00:14:13 - Fighting the Education Board for SSC Exams 00:17:35 - Dhaka College & Inspiring Teachers (Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed) 00:20:04 - Dhaka University Life & the 1969 Mass Uprising 00:23:31 - Overcoming Institutional Barriers at the University 00:27:06 - Student Politics, Class Representation & West Pakistan Tour 00:30:53 - Career Hurdles & The Spark for Disability Activism 00:37:14 - Founding ABC, Impact Foundation & Jibon Tari Floating Hospital 00:39:10 - Forming VIPS, CSID, CDD, & Uniting Disabled Graduates 00:44:24 - The UNCRPD & The Fight for Disability Laws in Bangladesh 00:46:34 - The Importance of OPDs (Nothing About Us Without Us) 00:50:49 - Advice to Parents & Unemployed Youth with Disabilities 00:57:50 - Systemic Apathy & The Struggle with Bangladesh Bank 01:01:43 - Rapid Fire Questions (Books, Tech, & Accessible Cities) 01:05:00 - Final Message & Episode Conclusion 📌 Connect with Impact Lens Podcast: Subscribe to our channel for more inspiring stories!
