Something Happens to British Tourists a Few Weeks After Leaving America

It isn't the first week. That's the thing nobody expects. The first week back is fine. You're tired, you've got washing to do, people want to hear about it. You tell the stories. It's good. It's the third week. A man wakes up and, for about a second, thinks he's still there — and then has to work out which country the room belongs to. Two friends aren't seven days home before they're already looking at flights again, which they describe as completely normal behaviour. Somebody says the British sun is making it worse, which sounds backwards until you hear him explain it: a nice day at home is now just a comparison, and the comparison doesn't go his way. And they all reach for the same word without being prompted. Not "I miss it." Ruined. One of them says visiting America ruined food for him completely — nine seconds long, nearly three hundred thousand views, which tells you how many people recognised the feeling. Then a woman does something that shows how common this has become. She addresses Scotland directly and asks people to check in. A wellness check. It's a joke, and it isn't. Two people in this video push back on all of it. One says travelling there isn't even fun any more, that every place is trying to take every penny you have. Another says nobody owes America an apology and there have been far too many videos suggesting otherwise. They're both allowed to be right. Plenty of people go and come home perfectly fine. But enough of them don't that somebody felt the need to check on an entire country.
