#GreatWallOfChina #History #AncientEngineering #Documentary #China #Architecture #ExplainerYou’ve heard it’s the only man-made thing visible from space. It isn’t. The real story of the Great Wall is stranger and far more clever.
In this explainer we take the Great Wall apart layer by layer. We start with Qin rammed earth and Han reed-and-gravel walls in the Gobi Desert. Then come Ming brick and the sticky-rice mortar that science confirmed in 2010, and the beacon network that sent warnings hundreds of kilometres in hours. We look at the human cost, the 1644 gate that let an army through, and the modern railway that uses the same old idea.
