Quarry Comings and Goings at Great Rocks Junction & Tunstead! - HHR, GBRf & DB at Work! - 18.08.2026

Having watched 70010 run round its train at Buxton, we arrive at Great Rocks Junction not long before it, as the driver gives up the token for the single line from Buxton round to Tunstead and heads up the steep hill towards Peak Forest. Shortly after, we see 66308 straining its way out of Tunstead with ballast for the VQ at Rugby, before two empty trains make there way in for a fresh load of stone. After a scenic walk we arrive at the footbridge that spans a small part of the complex at Tunstead Quarry, were we see 70009 arriving with the empties from Hindlow and being shunted off for stabling. The plan was to catch other trains arrive and leave, however they ended up routed along the line that joins the quarry further on down. After a slog back round to Great Rocks, 66133 is seen again on the same rake of wagons, now replenished and struggling its way out the quarry. Several more empties are then caught arriving, including 66601.
