. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . An interesting historical artifact from around 1925! Played here is a rare shellac record from the German label Beka Record (No. 66169) with Polish repertoire, featuring the track 'Weź resztę' ('Take the Change'), performed as a romance ('romans') by the legendary Polish cabaret artist, Marian Rentgen (1888–1940). Known as the 'Troubadour of Warsaw,' Rentgen was a charismatic actor, soldier, qualified pharmacist, and a giant of the interwar Polish bohemia and cabaret scenes. Tragically, his brilliant career was cut short when he became a victim of the Soviet Katyn massacre in 1940. “Weź resztę” (Take the Change), is in fact rather a dramatic ballad about the life and fate of a poor girl. As you can hear, the record's current condition is far from perfect, having been heavily played with a classic steel needle over the decades. Despite the surface noise and historical wear, it remains a priceless document of its era. The label looks on the contrary as if it was untouched. #MarianRentgen #BekaRecord #jurek46pink #78rpm #StarePlyty #Szelak #Lata20 #InterwarPoland #PolskiKabaret #Gramofon #VintageAudio * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
