If planning feels impossible to stay consistent with, the problem might not be your system. It might be that somewhere underneath, you don't actually believe you need to plan. I'm a former project manager, teacher, and principal. Planning was the best part of all three jobs. I genuinely love it. And for my first two years of homeschooling, I could not stay consistent with it. This video is my honest look at why. The shift wasn't a new planner or a better routine. It was realizing that planning sat somewhere below food, water, and shelter on my own list of needs, and that everything else was quietly winning. Open and go curriculum made it feel optional. It wasn't until my needs changed that my consistency did. What changed for me A toddler who now needs something to do, or he will find something to do Wanting my second grader to move at his pace instead of the curriculum's pace Making room for interest-based learning, which right now means Spider-Man and how spider webs get so strong A diagnostic that showed he was ready for fourth grade math while we finish first grade ELA I also talk honestly about the other side of this. Some families genuinely don't need to plan, and if that's you and it's working, that's great. But the need can be yours as much as your kids'. If your weeks feel chaotic and you never feel prepared, that counts too. The recommendation is simple: reflect first. Decide whether planning is actually a need for the homeschool you want. Because once something is a real need, you find the time for it, the same way you find time to shower. The free planning checklist I use every week is linked below.
