King of thieves 1 (Agesinkole) | Nollywood Recap Starring Femi Adebayo, Toyin Abraham, Broda Shaggi

When King of Thieves (Agesinkole) dropped, it promised a dark, mythical Yoruba epic—and it largely delivered. Femi Adebayo plays Agesinkole with terrifying grandeur, descending upon the kingdom of Ajekunle like an unstoppable plague, while Odunlade Adekola brings his signature royal weight (and classic meme-worthy reactions) to the desperate throne. While the film boasts authentic cultural costuming, deep Yoruba poetry, and heavy, practical hand-to-hand combat, it still falls into a few classic Nollywood traps. We break down the exhaustingly long incantation rap battles that bring the plot to a dead stop, the theatrical stage-play acting from the supporting cast, and the PlayStation 2-era CGI animals that clash with the beautiful practical sets. However, everything changes in a massive third-act twist that completely flips the moral axis of the story, turning a standard fantasy into a complex tale of historical betrayal and systemic corruption. Is Agesinkole the most justified villain in modern Nollywood history?
