Experience a unique masterclass in cinematic history and sound engineering, filmed live at the historic erstwhile campus of legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor in Loni, Pune.
In this special educational session curated for the students of the School of Film & TV (under the aegis of MIT ADT University, Pune), the Dean, Prof. Dr. Mukesh Sharma, conducts a live playback demonstration.
The session utilizes the timeless track "Aaj Udta Hua Ek Panchi" from the classic film Gehra Daag (1963).
To preserve the artistic integrity of the original creation, the legendary original soundtrack has been left completely undisturbed. Students are given a rare, hands-on look at the technical nuances of playback alignment, acoustics, and the magic of classic Indian cinema tracking in a space that once echoed with the genius of Raj Kapoor himself.
About the Channel:Welcome to Phir Wahi Geet Laya Hoon, a curated digital archive created by Prof. Dr. Mukesh Sharma (Former Director General of Films Division & Additional Director General of Doordarshan / current Dean of School of Film & TV, MIT ADT University).
This channel is dedicated to reviving, preserving, and analyzing the golden eras of Indian music, cinema, and broadcasting heritage for enthusiasts and the next generation of filmmakers alike.
Movie: The song features in the 1963 psychological drama movie Gehra Daag, directed by O.P. Ralhan.
On-Screen Artist: The track is picturised on Bollywood’s "Jubilee Hero," Rajendra Kumar, opposite actress Mala Sinha.
The Vocal Maestro: It is sung by the legendary playback singer Mohammed Rafi. Rafi was considered the ultimate "natural voice patch" for Rajendra Kumar during the 1960s, delivering a massive string of chartbusters that helped cement Kumar's superstar status.
Behind the Lyrics: The evocative and poetic lyrics were penned by Shakeel Badayuni, a master of blending deep emotional weight with simple Urdu vocabulary.
The Musical Score: The song was composed by the popular music director Ravi (Ravi Shankar Sharma). Ravi was celebrated for crafting incredibly catchy, hummable melodies that required minimal instrumentation but carried immense emotional resonance.
Narrative Theme & ContextIn Gehra Daag, Rajendra Kumar's character carries a dark past and immense psychological guilt (the literal "deep stain" or Gehra Daag). This specific song serves as a major thematic turning point.
The lyrics signify a rebirth of freedom and happiness—metaphorically comparing a long-burdened soul to a free-flying bird (panchhi) that has finally escaped the darkness to embrace the spring season of life
