In today's video, we'll dive into the world of Southern baking and whip up a classic apple cake that's all about comfort and tradition. Join me at the table as we explore how to make Southern entrées, desserts, and side dishes from scratch. MASTER COOKBOOK RECIPE #198 APPLESAUCE CAKE Ingredients: 1 cup shortening 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar 2 large eggs, room temperature 1-1/2 cups sweetened applesauce 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 2 cups all-purpose flour (or use self-rising flour and omit salt, baking soda, and baking powder) 1/2 cup golden raisins 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Instructions: Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, applesauce, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, baking soda, baking powder. Mix well. Gradually add flour, half a cup at a time. Dust raisins and walnuts in flour. Fold in raisins and walnuts. Divide batter between two greased and floured 8- or 9-inch pans. Bake at 325°F for 30-40 minutes, or until golden and set (a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean). Frost with Recipe #208 Cream Cheese Frosting! (recipe below) MASTERBOOK COOKBOOK RECIPE #208 CREAM CHEESE FROSTING Ingredients: 1/2 cup salted butter, room temperature 12 oz. cream cheese, room temperature 2 lb. powdered sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 Tbsp evaporated milk, omit if piping 1/4 tsp. salt Instructions: In a bowl, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time. After 2 cups, add milk and vanilla, then finish adding the rest of the sugar. Whip on high for 1 minute to fluff the frosting.
