🚂 SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY | 4150, 75069 & 7802 BRADLEY MANOR | KIDDERMINSTER TOWN A busy morning of steam action at Kidderminster Town Station on the Severn Valley Railway, featuring GWR Large Prairie No. 4150, BR Standard Class 4MT No. 75069 and GWR Manor No. 7802 Bradley Manor. There is also plenty of activity from Kidderminster’s resident shunter, moving an observation coach around the station between passenger services. From light engine movements and watering to departures for Bridgnorth, this visit captures some of the everyday work that goes into operating a heritage railway. 🚂 GWR LARGE PRAIRIE NO. 4150 – 10:15 TO BRIDGNORTH Built at Swindon Works in 1947, 4150 is a GWR 5101 Class 2-6-2 tank locomotive. The Large Prairies were versatile engines used on suburban and semi-fast passenger trains, as well as freight duties. No. 4150 entered service at Stourbridge in June 1947 before working from several West Country depots, including Newton Abbot, Taunton and Exeter. Its final BR duties included banking trains near the Severn Tunnel before withdrawal in June 1965. Rescued from Barry Scrapyard in 1973, it eventually arrived at the SVR in January 1978 for preservation and restoration. In this video, 4150 departs Kidderminster Town with the 10:15 passenger service to Bridgnorth, making a superb sight as it heads out onto the line. 🚂 BR STANDARD CLASS 4MT NO. 75069 – 10:55 / 11:00 DEPARTURE Built at Swindon in 1955, 75069 is a BR Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 designed by Robert Riddles. Originally allocated to the Southern Region, it was equipped with a larger BR1B tender to carry extra coal and water. Its BR career included spells at Dover Marine, Stewarts Lane, Nine Elms and Eastleigh before withdrawal in 1966. Saved from Barry Scrapyard by the 75069 Fund in 1973, the locomotive returned to steam in 1984. It later worked both SVR services and mainline excursions. Following withdrawal in 1994, a major overhaul began in 2013, with the locomotive returning to traffic in 2018. The morning begins with 75069 arriving light engine from Bewdley. After entering Kidderminster Town, it receives a top-up of water before moving on to its passenger train. We then see it depart with the advertised 10:55 working, leaving at around 11:00. 🚂 GWR MANOR NO. 7802 – BRADLEY MANOR Built at Swindon Works in January 1938, 7802 Bradley Manor is a GWR 7800 Class 4-6-0. The Manor locomotives were designed to provide useful power on routes where heavier engines could not operate. Bradley Manor spent much of its working life on the Cambrian lines and hauled services including the Cambrian Coast Express. Withdrawn in November 1965, 7802 was sent to Barry Scrapyard before being saved for preservation. It returned to steam on the Severn Valley Railway in April 1993 and became a popular member of the fleet. While visiting the West Somerset Railway in 2019, the locomotive suffered serious damage following a piston rod failure. Repairs were undertaken at Tyseley Locomotive Works, and Bradley Manor returned to traffic in spring 2025. Following its visit to the West Somerset Railway, 7802 is now back at the Severn Valley Railway. During my visit, it could be seen standing in steam at Kidderminster Town, possibly undergoing routine checks or testing before further service. It was certainly good to see this much-loved Manor back on home territory! 🚉 KIDDERMINSTER’S RESIDENT SHUNTER Between the scheduled steam departures, the station’s resident shunter is seen moving an observation coach around Kidderminster Town. These movements provide a fascinating look at the less glamorous but essential side of heritage railway operations. The shunting, watering and light engine movements make for a varied morning, with plenty happening even when the passenger trains are not on the move. 🎥 IN THIS VIDEO: 4150 departing on the 10:15 service to Bridgnorth 75069 arriving light engine from Bewdley 75069 taking on water before its next working 75069 departing on the 10:55 service at around 11:00 7802 Bradley Manor standing in steam at Kidderminster The resident shunter moving an observation coach General morning activity at Kidderminster Town Station The Severn Valley Railway runs through Worcestershire and Shropshire between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, preserving the sights and sounds of Britain’s steam railway heritage. 👍 Enjoyed the video?
