What happens when I start with the sound of a French horn and a little inspiration from the music of Batman Begins?
In this third episode of In The Making, I'm exploring the French horn and trying to create something with that dark, cinematic feel I love. I start with a chord progression at the piano, then gradually build the piece with French horn, strings, bass, and woodwinds.
As the arrangement develops, I experiment with different patterns, add tension with tremolo strings, and try out different instruments to see what works best. Some parts stay, others change, and the piece takes shape one decision at a time.
As always, there's no script or predetermined destination. Just me in my DAW, following an idea and seeing where it leads.
In The Making is a series about creating music, exploring ideas, and discovering what happens along the way. These aren't step-by-step tutorials. They're an invitation to hang out, watch something take shape, and maybe feel inspired to create something of your own.
I'd love to hear what you think of the finished piece! What stands out to you, and what instrument or musical idea should I explore in a future episode?
Thanks for watching!

Production note: I forgot to record my screen during this session, so I went back and recorded it separately and tried my best to sync it. The audio and keyboard display don't line up perfectly in a few places, but the original composing session and performance are genuine, and I chose to preserve them rather than recreate the entire session.
