These Coke Chicken Wings are sweet, savoury, sticky and full of flavour.
The chicken wings are first blanched, then pan-fried until golden before being simmered with Coke, ginger, onion and soy sauce. Finish with a high-heat reduction for a glossy, flavourful glaze.
A simple and delicious chicken wing recipe that’s easy to make at home.
Recipe
Ingredients
• 12 chicken wing pieces
• 20g ginger, sliced
• 1/4 onion
• 1 can of Coke
• Light soy sauce
• Dark soy sauce
• Salt
• Extra virgin olive oil
• Sesame seeds, for garnish
Method
1 Score the chicken wings a few times to help them absorb the flavour.
2 Add half of the sliced ginger to cold water, then add the chicken wings and blanch.
3 Once the water comes to a boil, skim off the foam. If there’s still blood coming from the wings, blanch them a little longer.
4 Once there’s no more blood coming from the wings, remove them and set aside.
5 Heat the pan, then reduce to low heat. Add extra virgin olive oil and pan-fry the chicken wings until golden on both sides.
6 Leave some oil in the pan. Add the onion and remaining ginger, and sauté until fragrant.
7 Add the chicken wings, then pour in one can of Coke.
8 Add a little light and dark soy sauce, then season with salt.
9 Cover and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.
10 Turn up the heat and reduce the sauce. Remove the onion and ginger while reducing.
11 Once the sauce thickens and coats the wings evenly, transfer to a serving plate and garnish with sesame seeds.
